Prevention

Make your vehicle harder to take and easier to identify.

Practical vehicle-theft prevention habits for Jamaican drivers, including parking, keys, records, tracking and everyday security.

Reduce opportunity

No single security measure prevents every theft. Layering ordinary precautions is more effective than relying on one device or habit.

  • Lock the vehicle every time, even for short stops.
  • Close windows and remove keys before leaving the vehicle.
  • Avoid leaving spare keys inside the vehicle.
  • Park in visible, well-lit areas where practical.
  • Do not leave valuables openly visible.
  • Use secure parking arrangements when leaving a vehicle for extended periods.

Protect the keys

Modern vehicles can be stolen without obvious forced entry if keys or electronic credentials are compromised. Keep keys controlled, know who has access to spare keys and avoid leaving keys near easily accessible doors or windows.

Keep identification information ready

Do not wait until a theft occurs to search for your plate, VIN or recent photographs. Keep a private record of:

  • plate number;
  • VIN or chassis number;
  • make, model, year and colour;
  • recent photographs from several angles;
  • distinctive marks or modifications;
  • ownership documentation.

Consider layered security

Depending on the vehicle and your circumstances, useful layers may include factory immobilizers, alarms, steering-wheel locks, secure parking, tracking systems and other professionally installed security equipment.

Preparation shortens response time. A verified AutoWatch vehicle profile can save valuable time if an alert ever needs to be activated.

Help the right people see the right information

AutoWatch works best when vehicle information is accurate, sightings are reported promptly, and everyone keeps safety first.
